The pause is meant to revive the June interim understanding/MOU rather than negotiate a completely new framework. That earlier deal included a temporary ceasefire, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a roadmap for nuclear/regional security talks.
This comes after 9-10 straight nights of US strikes on Iran and Iranian retaliatory attacks on US assets in Syria, Kuwait and Bahrain. Iran’s President Pezeshkian called it a “full-scale war”.
Iran confirmed indirect communication with the US is continuing through mediators. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said “ideas have been conveyed to us”
Oil prices dipped and US stock futures rose on the news of the proposal, as traders weighed mediation efforts against fresh attacks.
No confirmation yet Neither the US nor Iran has publicly accepted it. A senior Iranian official spoke to Reuters about it, but details of the discussions were not given.
Mediators passed Iran a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire to de-escalate the war and create space to revive the interim deal signed last month.
