There are reports that Yemen’s Houthis are preparing to close the Bab el-Mandeb, one of the world’s key maritime passages.
If this happens, it would be a move similar to Iran’s strategy in the Strait of Hormuz. It could severely impact global trade and force ships to take the much longer route around Africa.
According to reports, the Houthis have not taken this step yet, but they are waiting for the right time. It is being said that this is part of Iran’s broader strategy to increase pressure on the US and its allies.
